    Lean Management

In a continuous improvement culture everyone will spend time on process improvement daily. The time spent will vary per employee from 10 minutes to the entire day. Ownership of process improvement is often the key to success for organisations.

The Lean Leader is the initiator of Lean implementation initiatives. In addition to extensive knowledge of the Lean improvement methods and tools, the Lean Leader is also a skilled change manager. In their role they have to make sure the Lean mindset is adopted from the shop floor to the boardroom. Whilst coaching colleagues, the Lean Leader will see to it Lean initiatives are in control and yield the desired results.

    The Lean Leader course

The course is made up of a theoretical part and a practical part. The five days of theory consist of three days covering Lean methods and tools (as in the Lean Practitioner course) and two additional days focusing on the Lean Management philosophy. The course meets all international standards and follows the ISO18404 standard which describes which competencies may be expected from a Lean Leader.

Extensive attention will be paid to the 14 management principles of Toyota. These principles serve as a general guideline for managers who wish to successfully implement Lean. One of the principles requires Lean Leaders to build a learning and continuously improving organisation. In order to do this, specific management skills are necessary. Lean Leaders coach people on how to improve, rather than taking an authoritative top down approach.

During the course, Lean tools and principles such as Kaizen, the five principles of Womack, Toyota Kata, the seven types of waste and A3 project management will be addressed.

    Practical information

The Lean Leader course takes a practical approach on the Lean methodology. It  is made up of 5 days of theory and a practical assignment. Your instructor will provide coaching during your practical assignment. In the Prospectus you will find detailed information about the course and the practical assignment.

A distinction can be made between the theoretical part and the practical part:

Part 1: The 5-day classroom course
The Lean Leader course has a duration of 5 classroom days. The first 3 days of this course will cover Lean methods and tools, focussing on the practical application (identical to the Lean Practitioner course). The last 2 days will focus on how to implement and manage Lean initiatives.

    Part 2: The practical assignment
After completing the theoretical course, you can demonstrate how to put theory into practice during the practical assignment. During your practical assignment you will receive coaching (approx. five hours) from your instructor.

Lean Six Sigma in your company

Although Lean Six Sigma is best known as a project-based improvement structure, it is much broader than that. Lean Six Sigma is an established philosophy, an organizational and improvement structure as well as a set of tools. Using this perspective Lean Six Sigma addresses organizational issues with respect to competitiveness, cost reduction, and customer satisfaction.

Depending on your ambition, Lean Six Sigma can be implemented in phases. Every organization is unique, without a common blueprint that universally applies. Together with you, The Lean Six Sigma Company will develop a plan of action tailored to your organization.
